What Makes Our Soaks Different Than Just Epsom Salt
When people think of bath salts, they usually picture a simple bag of Epsom salt. And truly, Epsom has earned its place. It dissolves quickly and brings that familiar sense of comfort the moment it meets warm water. For generations, it’s been the go-to ingredient people reach for after long, tiring days or when muscles feel overworked.
When we started creating The Salty Botanical, we didn’t want to replace Epsom salt, we wanted to build around it.
Magnesium chloride became the first addition. The one weuse is sourced from ancient seabeds, and it behaves differently on the skin. It melts in quickly, feels naturally gentle, and creates a softness Epsom alone doesn’t quite deliver. Once we worked with it, the blend finally started to feel complete.
Dead Sea salt was the next layer. It carries a naturally rich mineral profile and brings its own subtle character. There’s a quiet depth to it, nothing loud or showy, just an added nuance that supports the overall experience.
People often ask about Himalayan salt. It’s beautiful, widely loved, and absolutely has its place. It’s simply not part of this specific formula. For this blend, we focused on three salts that worked together in the way we envisioned. As the line grows, we're open to exploring other salts and combinations.
The essential oils were the final piece. Instead of adding them directly to the salts, we work them into dendritic salt: a fine, airy crystal that holds scent evenly. It keeps everything balanced and prevents any heavy pockets of oil. The aroma unfolds naturally without synthetic additives.
Everything is mixed in small batches. Not for the aesthetic of “handmade,” but because salts are sensitive to moisture and time. Smaller batches keep the texture fresh, the scent true, and the experience aligned with what we intended.
So yes, Epsom salt is part of what we do, just not the whole story. This blend is thoughtful, layered, and intentionally crafted to feel soft and grounded from the moment it touches the skin.
